About the Position

NRZ is looking for a motivated self-starter to lead the valuation department. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, and managing one full time employee, you will be part of a vibrant, fast paced office environment with exposure to complex financial products and investments in the residential mortgage business.  This is a role with direct exposure to front office and senior management.

As a VP within the NRZ valuation group, you will be responsible for the valuation of the financial products in the portfolio, including RMBS, Mortgage Servicing Rights (“MSRs”) and Residential Mortgage Loans.  In working for a publicly listed mortgage REIT, you will assist with the collection, consolidation, and analysis of financial information underlying the financial statements, footnotes, and supporting schedules.


Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain models to ensure proper valuation of illiquid securities (structured credit/private equity/complex derivatives/mortgage-related fixed-income securities)
  • Review and analyze company financials/historical performance and determine the reasonableness of valuation assumptions
  • Prepare/present presentations for Valuation Committee meetings
  • Review third party pricing to determine reasonableness and challenge vendor assumptions with supporting market data resulting in updated vendor pricing
  • Create pricing model per deal documents for new investments
  • Actively contribute to research, report generation and financial modeling
  • Interface with the auditors and demonstrate the key controls in place with documentation as well as their advisory teams to gain comfort around our valuations.
  • Obtain and communicate information that is accounting, financial and operational in nature, analyzing the information, and preparing various management reports and summaries of results to be used at various levels
  • Consistently seek opportunities to improve processes, controls and procedures. Lead projects for work process automation, technology integration/development in concert with other Fortress groups, third party vendors, and trading counterparties.


The ideal candidate should have:

  • An excellent understanding of equity securities and fixed-income products including Mortgage Servicing Rights.
  • A strong learning skill with an interest and ability in both business and fixed-income valuations and relevant cash flow analysis
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel, Power Point and Word
  • Experience using Intex, Bloomberg and Capital IQ.
  • Strong modeling and valuation skills, coupled with an understanding of financial reporting systems, procedures and controls
  • Excellent problem solving, writing and communication skills
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills
