About the Position

Fortress Investment Group is seeking a Valuation Associate/Vice President within its Credit Funds business.  The position will be a highly visible and key role on the Valuations team, assisting in the fair value determination of private investments within the Credit Funds business. 


Responsibilities:

  • Oversight and in-depth review of monthly valuations of the Credit Funds’ investments
  • Review valuations utilizing a variety of valuation techniques including discounted cash flow analysis, comparable company analysis, precedent transactions analysis, and other methodologies with asset managers, valuations firms, and investment professionals to understand movements in valuations.
  • Assist in the on-going analysis of the portfolio by reviewing complex financial models, key valuation assumptions and performance indicators, projected cashflows, and by tracking significant events for each asset.
  • Prepare the results of valuations analysis, highlighting key findings. Compile valuations and supporting information and prepare summary packages to be reviewed by senior management and Valuation Committee.
  • Liaise with auditors and third-party valuation firms.
  • Assist with policy and procedure reviews across Credit regarding Valuation to ensure consistency and accuracy.
  • Develop strong relationships and effective lines of communication with colleagues and third parties (including Credit Funds senior management, investment teams, asset management, fund accounting, valuation firms, and auditors)

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have 5-7 years of relevant experience.

  • Must have hands-on experience with private valuations (debt and/or equity valuations)
  • Direct experience utilizing valuation techniques and methodologies including discounted cash flow (DCF), comparable company, and precedent transactions with a thorough understanding of ASC 820.
  • Ability to build and review valuation models.
  • Ability to interpret a Credit Agreement.
  • Bright, quick learner, reliable, self-motivated, self-starter
  • Strong personal ownership and ability to resolve issues independently.
  • Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Strong interpersonal (verbal and written communication) skills, including experience presenting / communicating with senior managers.
  • Process improvement orientated with a demonstrated track record of implementing enhancements.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently, as well as work closely with fellow team members in a collaborative environment.
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel is expected.
  • Working knowledge of Bloomberg, Capital IQ and Wall Street Office is preferred.
  • Alternative asset management experience or valuation firm experience preferred
  • BDC experience is a plus.
  • CFA designation (or working toward) is a plus.
The base salary range for this position is expected to be between $135,000 and $155,000.
The base salary range proposed for this role has been set forth to comply with local law, but salary is only one element of the total compensation for this role. The base salary range suggested above does not include compensation elements such as bonuses, overtime and deferred cash (each of which are applicable in certain roles), benefits, perquisites, and company contributions to employee 401(k) accounts. Such other pay components often result in total compensation materially exceeding base salary for a particular role. Total compensation as well as base salary for a role depend in part upon individual performance, years of service, experience, geographic considerations, the performance and the needs of particular business units, company performance, and general market conditions.
