The Legal Assets group is part of Fortress’s Credit business and invests in opportunities in which the underlying asset is directly or indirectly related to a legal, regulatory, or other contingent event.  The fundamental investment strategy is to buy, finance or otherwise invest in legal claims or fees.  The group provides capital solutions to parties in pending and prospective litigations, law firms, and legal services businesses.  These investments are used by our counterparties to manage their working capital more efficiently, reduce requirements to fund litigation expenses, and monetize or de-risk legal claims. 

The Asset Manager – Legal Assets will:

Control and monitor closed transactions to ensure compliance with legal documents

Review and negotiate legal documents

Assist in the development of underwriting practices and standards as well as due diligence and surveillance programs

Execute periodic client fundings (borrowing base confirmation) and monitor performance metrics (covenant and collateral triggers)

Produce monthly asset management summaries

Settle loan transactions for fees and interest

Coordinate transactions with various third parties (rating agencies, trustees, collateral custodians and clients)

Participate in pre/post-closing due diligence including portfolio surveillance and credit monitoring

Analyze and stratify prospective client portfolio data

Assist in preparing cash flow models

Maintain credit files and documentation for legal assets transactions

Coordinate loss reserving and claim management activity as necessary

The ideal candidate will have:

A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, economics or related field and at least two years of related experience in asset based credit analysis 

A background in investment banking, securitization banking, asset backed finance, asset backed securities portfolio management or asset based lending

An understanding of capital structures and balance sheets, familiarity with securitization structures and the ability to analyze a specialty finance company and its assets

Exceptional interpersonal and communications skills

Strong analytical abilities and negotiating skills

Demonstrated strength in Excel, Word and PowerPoint
